Dorr William Collins, known as Bill, age 68, a resident of the Frost Bottom Community, passed away at his residence Sunday, June 27. Mr. Collins was born Dec 24, 1952 in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was a member of the Friendly Welcome Baptist Church. He graduated from Elyria High School in Ohio competing on an All-State level championship wrestling team. At the age of seventeen, he joined the United States Marine Corp where he excelled as a diver conducting reconnaissance missions gathering cartography intelligence off the coast of Vietnam for possible beach landing sights. Later he was assigned to 2nd Recon Bn where he completed Basic Under Water Demolition School with honors where he trained with Navy Seals. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corp reaching the rank of Corporal. In civilian life he earned certifications and worked as a coal miner, mechanic, electrician, foreman, farmer, welder, and long-haul truck driver. His hobbies included fishing, swimming, camping, karate, farming, coaching baseball at Norwood Boys Club, ranching, breeding, and training horses on his family farm with his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Karen Collins. Bill and Karen rode and explored the vast riding trials of the southeastern Appalachian Mountains.
Bill is preceded in Death by his Beloved wife, Karen Collins; his son, Jason Collins; parents, James and Mary Collins; brother, James Collins Jr and sister, Donna Collins; In addition, he is preceded in death by Charlie and Nora Brown, his wife’s great grandparents who admired Bill who tirelessly kept up the family farm; brother-in-law, Edward “Eddie” Green and family friend, Jimmy Wayne as well.
Mr. Collins is survived by his 2 sons, Chad Collins of Indianapolis and Lukus Collins of Oliver Springs and his loving sister, Joyce Jones of Tampa Bay. He is also survived by his childhood friend and cousin, Waddle Malcom of West Virginia. In addition, he also survived by his outstanding neighbors who were always there for Bill if he needed anything Ed Shipley, Frank Phillips, Johnny Carroll, Kenneth Seiber, Randal Green, and Tom Goins of Frost Bottom.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at his home, 184 Old Frost Bottom Road, Oliver Springs, TN 37840, at 10 am.
